The Accelerated Reader Project
For the second and fourth quarters, we will be using the Accelerated Reader program for our book reports. The following instructions will explain exactly what you will need to do to earn an A on this project.
You will need to select a novel from the Accelerated Reader reading list. Each book on the list has a set number of points that it is worth if you get all of the questions right on the quiz. You can find the AR reading list on the school library page on the school web site. Do not read a book if it is not on the list.
You will need to earn a total of 7.5 points in order to get an A on the project. This project is worth 15 points, so your quiz scores will be doubled. You cannot earn extra points for the project by earning more than 7.5 points on the quizzes.
After reading the book you have selected, you will take an AR reading quiz on the computer in the library during nutrition or lunch. You will need to earn at least a 65% on the quiz in order to receive any points for the book.
If you fail a reading quiz and do not earn any points for reading the novel, there is still a way that you can earn points for the book. If you fail the reading quiz, you can type a 2-page summary of the book that you read and still earn half of the points that the book was worth. For example, if you read a book that is worth 12 points and fail the quiz, you can still earn 6 points by typing the summary.
You may need to read several books in order to earn the 7.5 points needed to get an A. Because of this, you will need to plan to take your reading quizzes early so you have time to read additional books if necessary. Do not wait until the last week of the project to take your first reading quiz!!
Points will not carry over from quarter to quarter. If you earn 7.5 points for the second quarter, you will earn an A for the project for that quarter, but you will start the fourth quarter back at 0 points.
If you have any questions about this project, see me as soon as possible. Again, do not wait until the last week to get help.
The due date for the second quarter AR project is December 9th.
